It is always intimidating to ask professors for reference letters. I’m committed to writing to good letters for strong candidates that I know well and have some familiarity with. To help ease you through the process, I have listed some requirements for students that I write for:
Generally, I am not able to write a reference letter for someone I haven’t seen in years. Usually, I only write letters for students I’ve worked and chatted with over and extended period of time. If you are in fourth year, and I taught you in first or second year, and we haven’t talked in two or more years, then I will not be able to write a reference letter for you.
